Spring Term 2024 in Year 4

What a busy start to the Spring Term in Year 4!

This term, we have begun our study of the Tudor period. We stared by researching and discovering about the man himself – Henry VIII. The children have written some brilliant biographies and have enjoyed exploring a range Tudor artefacts, we’ve even donned a few Tudor outfits! We have also studied Tudor Portraits and have drawn a self portrait, Tudor style – even giving ourselves a Royal title to accompany them!

The children in Years 3 and 4 had an exciting visit to the Nantclwyd Y Dre Historic House in Ruthin. They delved into Tudor history, foraging and making Tudor herbal medicines, and explored Tudor food, laying the table for a Tudor feast. Children also learnt about Tudor gardens and had a go at making their own mini garden using flowers and herbs from the area. Finally, children were taught about Tudor pilgrimages and the essentials needed to walk and journey such a long way. A very interesting and exciting day was had by all!

We were joined by PC Hulley earlier this term who came to talk to our class about ways to stay safe online. We learnt about the SMART acronym, created safe passwords, and thought about who we can talk to if we ever feel unsafe online.

As always, we have been very active this term! Year 4 are working closely with Matthew Jones from Active Wrexham to develop our skills in football and tag rugby.

We also attended a Tennis Festival at Wrexham Tennis Centre. The children took part in a wide range of activities and had a brilliant morning!

We continue our Forest School adventures and have focused our attention on the animals in our environment. We thought about how we can help the birds in the cold wintery months and have made bird feeders. We have also used our Forest School sessions to help us think about our mental wellbeing. We have started to learn about the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, and took the opportunity to explore the ‘Take Notice’ element this week. Children drew, took pictures, listened and cloud gazed as they explored and connected with the beautiful surroundings we are blessed with here in Forest School.

We are also excited to have reached the end of our Spring Bulb planting investigation. Our results have been uploaded and children have all taken home their very own flowerpots. They will be able to plant them in their gardens ready for flowering again next year!

Children got into World Book Day celebration mode earlier this term too! They came dressed as their favourite book character and enjoyed sharing books and reading to the children in our Nursery and Reception classes.
