Healthy School and development of Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) scheme of work

We claimed our fourth year as a ‘Healthy School’ and have have passed our latest review of the National Quality Award.  This is an accolade that has only been claimed by a handful of schools in the Wrexham Authority and is one that we, at St. Mary’s, are really proud of.

Education in Wales is changing. Teachers and education experts from across Wales have been working together to develop the Curriculum for Wales. We need to help all of our young people to excel in all aspects of life, so they grow into adults who are healthy, confident individuals. Education should encourage and support young people to respect themselves and others, to value diversity, and give them the ability to build healthy, respectful relationships.

The new curriculum starting in September 2022 will include developmentally appropriate Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE). Our staff are currently attending workshops and are working alongside all stakeholders to develop a unique approach to developing our own RSE policy and scheme of work.  If you have any questions or queries regarding these documents or their content, please do not hesitate to contact us at school.
