Summer 2025 in Llyn Cau

At the beginning of the summer term, pupils from Dosbarth Llyn Cau joined the whole school in a special service at St. Mary’s Church to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE80). During the service, we had the honour of reading a letter from Bombardier Tom Jones, who shared his personal experiences of life during and after the war. Inspired by his bravery and sacrifice, we wrote letters in return, expressing our gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today. It was a moving and memorable occasion, and we were proud to take part in such a meaningful tribute.

As part of our topic, Our World and Beyond, pupils took part in an exciting creative workshop in collaboration with Wrexham University and filmmaker Joe Edwards. During the session, we enjoyed a hands-on masterclass in photography, where we learned how to take effective photos using angles, positioning, and special effects. The children have since been set an exciting challenge: to create a short video on the theme of Ecological Citizenship. Using a combination of still images and video clips, they are currently working hard on their projects. Scripts have been written, and filming is underway—watch this space for the final results!

In our topic work, we have also been busy learning all about the planets in our solar system. As part of their research, children created and shared informative PowerPoint presentations to showcase their findings with the class. In addition to their scientific studies, the children explored space-themed artwork by artist Peter Thorpe. They analysed his unique style and techniques and have begun to experiment with these in their own work. Currently, they are perfecting their background designs and will soon be adding planets, rockets, and even space junk to bring their artwork to life. We can’t wait to see the final pieces!

We took part in a wonderful Celebration service in church on July 1st, where our class spoke about being Ecological Citizens and bringing Peace to the world. Several of our class also showcased their amazing musical talents with violin, guitar and piano playing.
