Well hello and welcome one and all to the fantastic, splendorous and amazing class that is Llyn Brenig!
Llyn Brenig and its surrounding area is somewhere I spent time as a youngster. My parents were avid World Rally Championship followers and we spent many a winter’s day and even nights in Clocaenog Forest nearby – apparently I slept in the car mostly!
Llyn Brenig is an artificial lake, which was constructed between 1973 and 1976, by building an embankment dam across the Afon Brenig valley. It is used to manage the flow in the River Dee and maintains water supply to Liverpool and North East Wales too. It is situated right next door to Llyn Alwen, Mrs Richards’ chosen lake for year 2.
Llyn Brenig, located near to Ruthin and Denbigh, has so much to offer – 2500 acres of forest, moorland and lakes amid stunning upland scenery. With visitor centre, café, gift shop, osprey exhibition, adventure playground, cycle hire, mountain biking, walking trails, sailing and fishing, there is much to discover.
It is the perfect place for adventure in the great outdoors. A circular walking trail around Llyn Brenig Lake is expected to take 4 hours to complete. There’s plenty of wildlife to look out for too – Early mornings offer rare glimpses of deer and otters; there are red squirrels and badgers, grouse, buzzards and ospreys.
We have loved watching two osprey chicks grow and fledge this year, even saw a huge fish being deposited as their tea by their Dad! They have spread their wings and can be tracked and you can visit their Osprey Project lookout.
I am looking forward to the exciting year ahead and getting to know your family a little better, we have some amazing ideas in the pipeline too! We have an ‘open door’ policy and are always willing to listen to any problems or indeed ideas that you may have and remember that no matter how small, we are here to help whenever we can.
I would like to remind you to ensure that all your child’s belongings are clearly marked with their name as we already have a collection of sweatshirts and cardigans on display with NO names and NO home to go to either.
Class Dojo has evolved as the first port of call for information and dates as well as a messaging service between school and home. We produce diary dates for the upcoming half term and there are always spare copies available and should we need to change or swap dates we will endeavour to message you with the updated information whenever and wherever possible.
We have developed the use of SeeSaw as an online portfolio for your child and regularly share activities, experiences and celebrations with you to see at home. We encourage you to make comments about your child’s portfolio content and hope that you enjoy having a sneaky look into their day also.
I am certainly looking forward to a fun packed year ahead.
Mrs Kay Lawrenson
