Llyn Cau

Croeso i Dosbarth Llyn Cau!

We are a group of enthusiastic, creative, and talented individuals, eager to share our learning journey with you this year, welcome along!

Our class is named after Llyn Cau, a large mountain lake nestled in a dramatic glacial cirque on the southern side of Cader Idris in the Snowdonia National Nature Reserve. Llyn Cau, meaning ‘Closed Lake,’ offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks of Cader Idris. The deep, clear waters are home to wild brown trout and lie beneath towering 400m high mountain walls.

This place holds special significance to me as I enjoy hiking the trails of Cader Idris with my cocker spaniel, Lola during the holidays. Llyn Cau is the perfect spot for a rest and a quick paddle before continuing the hike to the summit.

According to legend, Cader Idris was once home to a giant named Idris, who was said to have used Llyn Cau as a gigantic armchair! We are excited to delve deeper into this ancient folklore as we learn and explore together.

As with the rest of the school, we have an open-door policy. Please feel free to call in if you have any questions or need a quick chat, I’m here to help. We use the Class Dojo app to share information and dates, as well as to serve as a messaging service between school and home. We will send diary dates for each term and notify you of any additional dates through Class Dojo.

We also use the SeeSaw app as an online portfolio for your child, regularly sharing activities, experiences, and celebrations for you to see. This is a wonderful way to encourage discussion with your child about their day, and we love seeing your comments and likes from home.

We emphasise the importance of reading, and children are asked to have a suitable reading book with them at school. We offer a wide selection of books in our class library for the children to borrow, but they are also welcome to bring a book from home. We read daily, so it is crucial that children have access to their reading book every day. We also encourage reading at home for at least 10 minutes each day, whether independently, with a sibling, or to an adult. We appreciate your support in fostering a love for reading.

Please remember to clearly label your children’s belongings with their names. While children are welcome to bring a small pencil case with basic stationery, we kindly ask that bulky items and toys remain at home please.

Thank you for taking the time to read the information on our class page. We look forward to an action-packed, exciting year ahead!
