Sports Stars

At St. Mary’s, we are proud to offer the children a wide range of sporting opportunities. From swimming to rugby, we understand the importance of encouraging our children to be healthy and active.

Autumn Term 2025

Children in Year 5 have had the opportunity to take part in ‘Play Together’ training from Matthew at the Active Wrexham Team and are now qualified to run small games sessions during playtimes at school. The children have developed their leaderships skills and will work in groups to deliver safe, fun, and inclusive playground activities to the younger children in school. We are excited to see the children develop in their roles and see them shine as inspirational leaders at school.

We are running our Football and Netball After School Clubs this term. Many of our Junior children take part and enjoy both developing their skills and playing in matches – it’s great to see the children play with such enthusiasm and determination!

Our school football teams represented St. Mary’s brilliantly on October 3rd in their matches against Ellesmere College, coming away with two fantastic wins: 8-0 and 3-2! We are so proud of every child involved. They showed 100% composure, played with real sportsmanship, and were an absolute delight to take on the road. Well done, team St. Mary’s! ⚽️

Our two football teams went back to Ellesmere College on November 18th to represent St. Mary’s at a tournament. They finished as runners-up and demonstrated outstanding resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon. We are so proud of their effort and achievement, da iawn pawb!

Our football team also took part in the Utilita Kids Cup at Ysgol Y Grango on November 27th. They played brilliantly and narrowly missed out on the quarter-finals by one point! They went on to play in the friendly rounds and continued to show fantastic skill, spirit and sportsmanship throughout. Da iawn pawb, a great day playing with super determination and teamwork. We even had time for a photo with Wrex! ⚽️🌟

Meanwhile, our netball team celebrated a fantastic win in their friendly match against Penley, Madras. The children played with remarkable enthusiasm and focus, earning a well-deserved victory. Da iawn pawb!

Both teams represented the school with pride, energy and teamwork, a great showcase of what our pupils are capable of on and off the court.
