🌟 A Busy and Inspiring Summer Term! 🌟

This term has been full of excitement, growth, and achievement as we have placed a strong focus on developing independence across all areas of learning. It has been wonderful to see the children growing in confidence and taking ownership of their learning in so many ways.

One of the highlights of our classroom has been the introduction of our Challenge Corner. This area has quickly become a favourite space, where children are encouraged to explore, create, design, and problem-solve independently. Whether building structures, testing ideas, or thinking of new ways to overcome a challenge, the children have shown fantastic creativity and resilience. Even more exciting is how this independence is now flowing into other areas of the classroom!

✏️ Growing as Independent Writers and Story Explorers

This term, our Literacy focus has centred around stories and how we respond to them. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring a range of texts and using their ideas to think more deeply about characters and events.

For example, when reading Not Now, Bernard, the children reflected on how Bernard might be feeling and considered what he might want to say to his parents. These thoughtful discussions were then brought to life through their writing.

We were especially impressed by how the children applied these ideas within our Challenge Corner. Linking their learning across the curriculum, they designed and created objects that could help keep Bernard safe from the monster! The children independently made and labelled their creations, confidently using their phonological knowledge to support their writing. It has been fantastic to see such purposeful and creative application of their skills.

Overall, we are incredibly proud of how the children are developing as confident, independent writers, taking risks and showing great pride in their work.

🔢 Maths Masters in the Making

In Maths, we have been exploring key early concepts through hands-on and practical activities. Our focus this term has included:

  • Sharing objects equally
  • Exploring and creating groups
  • Understanding grouping
  • Investigating even and odd through sharing
  • Building and recognising doubles

The children have loved using practical resources to deepen their understanding, and they are becoming increasingly confident in explaining their thinking.

⚽ Active and Confident in PE

Our PE sessions have been full of energy and enthusiasm! This term, we have focused on developing essential ball skills such as aiming, rolling, throwing, and kicking. The children have enjoyed practising with different targets, improving their accuracy, control, and coordination.

Alongside developing physical skills, we have also been building teamwork and cooperation. It has been fantastic to see the children supporting one another, working together, and growing in confidence. We are also very excited as we continue preparing for our upcoming Sports Day!

🤝 Learning About Relationships

In our Jigsaw sessions, we have been exploring relationships and what it means to be a good friend. Through discussion and reflection, the children have identified qualities such as kindness, sharing, and listening, and have begun to recognise these traits in their own friendships.

🌱 Outdoor Learning Adventures

Our outdoor learning sessions have brought Science to life! The children have been exploring how things grow and have taken part in an exciting challenge to grow the tallest sunflower. There has been lots of curiosity, care, and responsibility shown as they nurture their plants and observe changes over time.

✨ All in all, it has been a wonderfully busy and productive Summer Term so far. We are so proud of how far the children have come and can’t wait to see what they achieve next! ✨
