We have been continuing our science supersleuth training as part of our transition project with The Maelor school, enjoying a range of activities and investigations including chromatography, forensic analysis and programming microbits to send coded messages.

We also celebrated Earth Day 2026 through artwork and writing our own pledges to care for the environment. To mark David Attenborough’s 100th birthday in May, we created a film of ourselves signing in British Sign Language (BSL) alongside his narration of Louis Armstrong’s timeless classic What a Wonderful World, creating a tribute to his lifelong dedication to our planet.

Year 6 have been proudly sporting their Leavers’ hoodies as they enjoy their last term with us at St Mary’s. It’s always a memorable term and the highlight is our annual residential trip to Condover Hall in May.

Throughout the week, pupils took part in a wide range of exciting activities, including climbing, abseiling, kayaking, zip wiring and team challenges. Many stepped outside their comfort zones, trying new experiences and showing impressive determination, resilience and courage along the way.
The residential provided countless opportunities to work together, solve problems and support one another. Whether tackling a challenge at height, navigating an activity on the water or encouraging friends to give something new a try, pupils embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and positivity.

The instructors at Condover Hall were full of praise for the children’s excellent behaviour, positive attitudes and willingness to help one another. Staff were incredibly proud of the way pupils represented St Mary’s throughout the week, demonstrating maturity, respect and kindness at all times.
As well as creating wonderful memories, the residential helped pupils develop their confidence, independence and communication skills. It was a valuable opportunity to strengthen friendships and prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school.
Condover Hall was a fantastic experience from start to finish and one that Year 6 will remember for many years to come.
