Summer 2026 in Llyn Brenig

This term, we are exploring the exciting world of engineers and architects and the amazing things they design and create! From towering buildings, immense bridges to clever inventions, we will be discovering how these creative thinkers solve problems and bring their ideas to life.

To inspire our learning, we are reading two fantastic stories — Iggy Peck, Architect and Rosie Revere, Engineer. These stories will spark our imaginations and help us think like designers, builders and inventors.

Through our work, we will be:

  • Developing our story writing by creating our own imaginative tales
  • Exploring STEM learning through designing, building and testing ideas
  • Building important collaboration skills by working together and sharing our thinking

We are excited to see all the creative ideas the children will come up with as they design, build and create this term!

We have been exploring our curiosity corner, packed with fascinating fiddles, parts of machines, switches and all sorts of unusual objects to spark our imagination. Alongside this, we have loved getting to know the characters in our two chosen stories, developing our understanding through discussion and creative activities. Using Rosie’s story as inspiration, we designed and built our very own cheese?copters, experimenting with design and mechanisms before turning our inventions into collaborative stop?motion videos.

A special highlight was tasting delicious dandelion honey made for us by Lois and Eli — a real seasonal treat that sparked conversations about food that is available in our hedgerows and how food is created.

🔢 Maths Learning Across the Half Term

Our maths sessions have been full of practical exploration. One group revisited key measurement skills, using real?life objects to compare, estimate and record. Another group was introduced to arrays and multiplication, building strong foundations through hands?on activities and visual models.

🌿 Forest School & Springtime Changes

Forest School has been buzzing with activity. We carried out a big spring garden clear?up, noticing new growth and preparing our outdoor space for the warmer months. The children worked brilliantly as a team, showing care for their environment. We’re also eagerly awaiting some exciting changes to our woodwork area — a space that will soon offer even more opportunities for creativity and construction.

🦕 Celebrating Sir David Attenborough

A memorable moment this half term was celebrating David Attenborough on his 100th birthday. The children were fascinated to discover the many animals, plants — and even a dinosaur — named after him. We also enjoyed a live online lesson that brought the wonders of the natural world right into our classroom.

🐢 Class Creatures & Curious Critters

We’ve kept up with our class favourites too:

  • Blossom the tortoise, enjoying the spring sunshine
  • Dave the praying mantis, who has grown so much he’s almost ready for wings

Observing living things over time has sparked brilliant questions and discussions.

🧠 Brain Breaks & Looking Ahead

Our teaching student, Miss Mac, introduced us to Danny Go for energetic brain breaks that get everyone moving and smiling. They’ve quickly become a class favourite.

As we move into the rest of the summer term, we’re excited to explore bridges and buildings — diving deeper into engineering, design and the joy of making.
