Autumn 2025 in Llyn Bach

Photos coming soon….

This term, Llyn Bach and Llyn Elsi have been exploring the theme of Our Locality, focusing on our own village of Overton-on-Dee. We have been learning about the different buildings and places that make our community special, including some of our most well-known landmarks such as the ancient Overton Yew Trees.

As part of our learning, we visited St Mary’s Church and admired its beauty both inside and out. We celebrated our Harvest Festival there, where we gave thanks to our local farmers for all the hard work they do. During this time, we explored a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, discovering where they come from, how they grow, and even how they taste!

In literacy, we have been learning about the people who help us in our community. We looked closely at the different jobs people do in our locality and thought about how their roles support us in our everyday lives.

In maths, we have been exploring numbers both in the classroom and outdoors. We also learned how our local shops support our community and looked more closely at the Post Office. There, we used our estimating skills to predict the weight of different parcels before carefully weighing them to see how close our guesses were.

During our outdoor learning sessions, we have been investigating the natural features of our area. Using pipes and guttering, we worked together to recreate the River Dee and experimented with how to make our “river” flow. This hands-on exploration helped us think about movement, water flow, and how rivers travel through the landscape of our village.

It has been a wonderful term full of curiosity, discovery, and learning about the special place we call home.
