Spring 2026 in Llyn Brenig

What We’ve Been Learning This Term

This term, we have been busy exploring a wide range of exciting learning experiences across the curriculum.

For Digital Competence, we have been using The Digital Learning Den to help us understand how to use our devices sensibly and safely. We’ve learned the helpful reminder “Pause, breathe and finish up” to support self?regulation when using technology, and we explored a digital safety traffic?light system to help us recognise when a website or app is safe and what do if we’re unsure.

We also completed a range of ‘unplugged’ activities, sorting and grouping objects to support our data?handling skills. This linked to our maths work, where we collected real data—such as our eye colours and how we travel to school—and used it to create our own graphs.

We extended our maths learning by exploring non?standard units of measure before moving on to using centimetres accurately in year 2.  We have used our hwb accounts to record our findings digitally as well as creating physical pictograms together.

Our new topic has taken us back in time to explore dinosaurs and fossils. We began by diving into the wonderful book The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth by Ellie Hattie, and we investigated a fascinating collection of fossils and artefacts from our Talking Bag. We feel very lucky to have been loaned some incredible real fossils from Mollie’s dad, Hugh. The children loved handling these treasured objects and asking thoughtful questions.

We’re now incredibly excited for our upcoming adventure to Manchester Museum, where we will explore their inspiring exhibits, including the Living Worlds Gallery, and meet April—the museum’s resident Tenontosaurus.
