Spring Term 2025 in Llyn Cau

What a busy start to the Spring Term in Dosbarth Llyn Cau!

We have been thinking about our class lake, Llyn Cau this half term. The children have been very creative, and have completed mini projects all about the lake – we have been wowed with presentations, art projects and poetry!

We have also learnt about the myths & legends associated with Cadair Idris and Llyn Cau and have written our own mythical stories linked to the legends.

Sticking with our water theme, we welcomed Catrin Higgit from Dwr Cymru into school who came to teach us about the work that Dwr Cymru do to ensure Wales has access to clean and safe water. We learnt about the process of the water cycle and were tasked with acting as mini engineers to problem solve and create a network of pipes to give a town on a map a water supply. We needed to work effectively in our groups, use connectors to link up pipes and finally test the water supply – very fun work indeed!

As part of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch Week, we were very fortunate to have had a visit from Gauntlet Birds of Prey. They brought to school a range of their amazing birds for us to see. We watched Harris the hawk fly over the hall and met Kevin the red legged Serima who amazed us with his jumping skills!

We also enjoyed a Chess taster session with Bob from the Chess in Schools and Communities team. He introduced us to the rules of playing chess and the children loved going head to head with each other in mini games!

Our Christian Value this half term is Community. The children in Dosbarth Llyn Cau worked hard to deliver a collective worship for the junior children, all about the importance of forgiveness in our community. We thought about Jesus’ teachings on forgiveness in the book of Matthew.

Whole School Eisteddfod

As part of our school Eisteddfod celebrations this year, we performed a class poetry recital of the Welsh poem ‘Sut i wneud teisen berffaith’ by Dyfan Roberts. A poem all about making a cake.. with some strange ingredients! The children made accompanying pictures and performed with great confidence, bendigedig pawb!

Children also used their creative skills to design a postcard, depicting a scene of Llyn Cau, our class lake. We had lots of beautiful entries, from collages to sketches and watercolour designs – it was very hard to choose the winners as the standard was just so high! Bendigedig to all the children who took part, we love your creativity!

World Book Day

As part of World Book Day celebrations this year, we joined an online quiz in partnership with The Literacy Trust and Premier League Stars. We answered lots of football and book related questions, alongside thousands of other children! We also had a great time reading to the younger children in the nursery and reception classes, outside in the sunshine. We completed book reviews based on our favourite book; children can use these to apply for a Blue Peter book badge – how exciting!
