This term, we’ve been diving into the magical world of Jim and the Beanstalk by Raymond Briggs. We’ve designed glasses, measured our heads and feet (some surprising results there!), and even turned into ‘Tally McNally Cats’ to learn all about tally charts—because who doesn’t love a fun way to collect data?

In maths, we’ve taken Jim’s adventure to another level by exploring measurement with non-standard units and getting hands-on with Actual Size by Steve Jenkins. Did you know how big the world’s largest beetle is or just how enormous a giant squid’s eyeball can be? Well, we do—because we measured their ACTUAL size! Plus, using our interactive screen and iPads, we’ve been using technology to record and analyse our findings in the most exciting ways.

Our creativity has been in full swing, too! The children have created fantastic story maps to retell Jim and the Beanstalk in their own words. We’ve even designed giant coins for the Giant (he needs some pocket money too, right?). And let’s not forget our role-play area, ‘Jack’s Market Stall’—where we’ve been busy using money skills to buy and sell (just watch out for those magic beans!).
Jigsaw this half term has been about ‘Dreams and Goals’ – how we can achieve with support, following step by steps and aiming high with ‘stretchy learning’ and working together.

Music has been another highlight, as we’ve been making our own instruments and singing our hearts out. Finding the beat with Charanga music has been so much fun—we’ve even busted out some dazzling dance moves!

Our Forest School sessions have been a hit, even in the chilly weather! We took part in the RSPB bird watch and even used our results in maths. We got crafty making bird feeders with toilet paper tubes, peanut butter, and seeds to keep our feathered friends well-fed. And, in one of the most exciting moments yet, we got up close to some beautiful birds—and even a very smelly ferret with Gauntlet Birds of Prey visiting.

To top it all off, we wrapped up this half-term with an unforgettable class trip to Llyn Brenig with our Year 2 friends from Llyn Alwen. It was a cold and windy day, but wrapped up warm, we explored both lakes, admired beauty and differences, and even enjoyed a cozy lunch in the inviting ‘Osprey Room.’

It’s been a half-term packed with learning, laughter, and adventure. After the break, we can’t wait to develop our geography skills, inspired by our trip to Llyn Brenig in the next half of the Spring Term.
