Spring Term 2025 in Llyn Alwen

An Exciting Term of Learning and Adventure in Llyn Alwen!

What a busy and exciting term we are having so far! This term, we have been diving into literacy through the delightful story of Jim and the Beanstalk by Raymond Briggs. The children have become enthusiastic learners as they uncover the magical world of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. They have been putting these concepts into action, crafting descriptive narratives that truly bring our characters to life. Their creativity has really shone through as they designed fabulous story maps and retold the tale, sprinkling in colourful adjectives along the way!

Sprinkling also featured in our celebration of Epiphany, as we used lots of different skills to make a Spanish Kings’ Cake, Roscon De Reyes.

We have explored sound and have ventured into the realm of music by constructing our very own instruments. The joy of singing together and learning to keep in time with a beat has been a highlight for everyone, fostering a wonderful sense of teamwork.

Additionally, we celebrated Santes Dwynwen’s Day on January 25th — what a lovely occasion!

Our Forest School sessions have also been tremendously rewarding. We participated in the RSPB bird watch, taking our findings back to the classroom to create block graphs on our Hwb accounts. We handcrafted bird feeders from toilet paper tubes, peanut butter and seeds to ensure our feathered friends are well-fed during the chilly weather, and had the opportunity to get up close to some wonderful birds, and even a smelly ferret!

Some children had the idea to measure tree branches and other natural resources, showcasing how we can apply our newly acquired math skills!

Furthermore, we have had a fantastic time creating pivot mechanisms and pop-up puppets inspired by Jim and the Beanstalk.

It’s not just puppets popping up, we learnt about internet safety and how to deal with unwelcome pop-ups.

We welcomed Matt from Active Wrexham, who taught us loads of new games to enhance our athletic skills — we had a blast!

To top off our adventures, we embarked on a class trip to Llyn Alwen with our friends from Llyn Brenig. On that chilly, windy day, everyone was wrapped up snugly against the elements as we explored both lakes, comparing their unique beauty.

It has been a truly enriching half term filled with learning and laughter. Looking ahead, we are excited to develop our geography skills based on our trip to Llyn Alwen after the half-term break, so keep an eye out for what we’ll be up to next!
