Autumn 2024 in Llyn Elsi

This Term’s Topic: People Who Help Us! 🚒👮‍♂️

What an exciting term we have in store for our learners as we have begun to dive into the wonderful world of People Who Help Us! This topic encompasses various subjects, encouraging our pupils to appreciate those who contribute to our community’s wellbeing. Here’s a sneak peek of the fabulous activities we been taking part in:

🌍

✨ Mathematics: We’re have been racing to the top of the ladder using our counting skills! Our budding mathematicians will be creating tally graphs to discover their favourite community helpers—let the competition begin!

✉️ Literacy: Our young storytellers have been penning heartfelt thank you letters and engaged in an exhilarating investigator letter hunt. We have also explored non-fiction books which have brought our community helpers to life.

🎨 Expressive Arts: We have created some vibrant fire painting by mixing  colours and expressing our creativity!

🚓 Special Visit: We were thrilled to welcome PC Jones to our school! The children have the opportunity to get a close-up look at his police car and learn about the important role policing plays in keeping us safe.

🏃‍♂️ Physical Development: During our P.E sessions we have focused on exploring various equipment, enhancing movement, and refining motor skills.

🌳 Outdoor Learning: Teamwork makes the dream work! The children have  collaborated to put out ‘fires’ and participated in a teddy rescue operation using homemade stretchers. They also used loose parts to create their very own fire engines and ambulances—imagination knows no bounds here!

In the second half of the term, we had yet more fun learning opportunities…..

We continued with our theme, “People Who Help Us,” and were lucky to have an amazing storytelling session from the Postal Museum in London, where they read an interactive version of the story, “The Jolly Postman.”

Outdoor Learning

We have been busy in the forest, searching for the characters from the story “The Jolly Postman” and using the masks of the characters to act out the narrative.

RVE

We have been learning about the Christmas story and have had a wonderful time with our Nativity, which we performed for all our friends and families.

Christmas Craft

We have been busy creating a range of gifts for our families to take home. We made clay leaves, which we then glazed in beautiful autumn colours. We used a technique called Hapazome to create environmentally friendly wrapping “paper” to wrap our gifts. We have used our measuring skills to create Christmas tree cards, we used our counting skills to create a Christmas tree from circles to decorate our Christmas bag and we also had an amazing experience of using a sewing machine to make Lavender bags to take home as a gift.

Maths

We have used our role-play area to weigh presents and work out the sizes of wrapping paper we would need for different-sized presents.

Language and Literacy

We have enjoyed using our role-play area to write letters to our families and to Father Christmas, which we were then able to put in envelopes and “post”!

And finally….

We finished the term in style with a Disco!
