The Autumn term in Dosbarth Llyn Cau is set to be filled with lots of exciting learning opportunities!
We have been busy deciding our class representatives for the various school councils, and the children are set and raring to go in their new roles!
Some of the older children in our class have recently received training from Matthew at the Active Wrexham Team and are now qualified to run ‘Play Together’ sessions during playtimes at school. The children have developed their leaderships skills and will work in groups to deliver safe, fun and inclusive playground activities to the younger children in school. We are excited to see the children develop in their roles and see them shine as inspirational leaders at school.
We took part in an exciting workshop with Xplore! Wrexham, and looked at ‘Building Wisdom.’ We explored the link between Science & Technology and religion and noted how Wisdom is an importance concept in both topics. We had hands on experiences with making an earthquake proof building with blocks and sand.
Children have also shared their class assembly, thinking about the Beatitudes of Jesus. We focused on the importance of us acing as peacemakers to help resolve any tricky situations we find ourselves in.
As part of our whole school Harvest Festival celebrations in church, we thought about the importance of using wisdom and sharing at Harvest time.
The children confidently presented their service in front of a packed congregation and donated cooking apples to share with our family and friends.
We worked with Fiona and Gill from the team at Brymbo Heritage to showcase a part of ‘Stori Brymbo.’ Storyteller, Fiona shared the interesting story about how John Wilkinson, Brymbo Man came to live and build his iron making business at Brymbo. We responded to the story through drama, speaking and listening and visual art. Children created their own piece of artwork which depicted a piece of the story. A talented group of stitchers will combine these pieces to form textile panels inspired by our work. This will then be displayed at the local Centre for all to see!
Thanks to the Little Learning Company for securing funding for the project to go ahead!
We have been diving into the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt, exploring its rich history and mysteries. Our learning came to life with a great day at The World Museum in Liverpool! 🌍
The children were brilliantly behaved and engaged so well with the workshop and museum trails. Children took on the role of archaeologists in the ‘Discover Ancient Egypt Workshop,’ handling artefacts (not modern replicas!) such as amulets and statuettes of gods. They imagined the person who carefully made them and thought about why they were so important to the ancient Egyptian people more than 3000 years ago. How have these artefacts survived for thousands of years?
We explored four topics, Gods and their symbols – how to recognise some of the Egyptian gods, materials – what the artefacts are made from and how they were used, mummification – examining a mummified cat and a mummy crocodile! We also learnt about?Egyptian writing – little pictures called hieroglyphs were used to write the sounds of their language. In the afternoon, we split into smaller groups and explored the Egyptian Gallery Floor of the museum, following two exciting trails, exploring the Gallery Floor and answered questions – The Afterlife and Mummification & Ancient Egypt.
Back in school a few days later we also had great fun participating in Crazy Hair Day, where we brought in sweets as payment for having crazy hair! These were used in the PTA’s Halloween Sweet Hunt event on October 25th.
To commemorate Remembrance Day, we took part in a collaborative art project, using chalk pastels to create a large poppy display. The children worked in groups of four to create their designs, they thought about lines, shape and colour choice to create a very effective display!
We had an ‘Introduction to Taekwondo’ taster session with Matty from Ady Jones’ Martial Arts Centre. The children loved the session and many are now looking forward to attending the Taekwondo after school club starting in January!
Our Christian Value this half term is Dignity. We have spent some time in our Prayer Space, thinking about what we can do to help those who are less fortunate than us and how we can think of ways to value everyone around us, always treating others with dignity and respect.
We have contributed to our school Christmas tree instillation at Church by decorating wooden baubles with pictures and words which depict our Christian values.
The children in Dosbarth Llyn Cau did an amazing job in Church presenting the story of the Shepherds at this years Nativity service. They sang their hearts out to a jam packed audience Church in both of our services.
