Spring Term 2022

In Year 6, our theme for Spring Term is WW2. We have loved fully immersing ourselves in the topic and exploring lots of cross-curricular learning opportunities linked to this. We have written newspaper reports about the Blitz, used our knowledge of 3D shape to construct gas mask boxes and learnt about Henry Moore and practised his method of wax resist to draw representations of the underground shelters, amongst lots of other activities. We visited Stockport Air Raid Shelters for a fantastic trip which really brought our learning to life.

For Outdoor Learning Week in March we took our WW2 learning into our playground and Forest School areas – planning and investigating WW2 spy parachutes in Science, practising the maths skills linked to this and foraging for nettles to make nettle soup in the spirit of rationing. We have also developed our cooking skills making carrot cookies from an original WW2 rationing recipe.

During Spring Term, Year 6 have also completed their Level 1 and Level 2 Bikeability training. Pupils spent a week cycling around our village in small groups with the Bikeability trainers developing their road safety awareness and cycling skills. Well done to everyone on achieving their certificates!
