Year 6 enjoyed a visit from the Chester Zoo Rangers:
We had a fabulous day of Science in Year 6 with Mrs Wilson from ‘Chemistry with Cabbages’. Lots of hands-on work including testing for acids and alkalies, separating protein molecules and creating polymers. Fascinating demonstrations too on dissolving polystyrene, distillation, and how carbon dioxide fire extinguishers work. Brilliant to see the class so inspired by an award winning female scientist.
As a finale to the wonderful work Year 6 have carried out on our World War 2 topic, we had a ‘Rationing Day’ where pupils cooked various original WW2 recipes, all containing the humble carrot. The carrot cookies were particularly delicious but the carrot fudge was rather an acquired taste!
