Spring Term 2021
This term our planning and activities has come from the story ‘A River’ by Marc Martin, which was selected by the pupils in year 3. We have been very busy with lots of practical challenges and activities such as making a paper boat that floats, making water filters to see who can produce the cleanest water and making a flowing river from tinfoil. We have written our own stories about a river, taking inspiration from the book. We’ve also looked at the water cycle and are building up to writing a non-fiction set of instructions for making clouds.
We have teamed up with year 4 to make a scarecrow to enter this year’s Overton Scarecrow Festival. In keeping with our topic ‘A River’, which travels through many different landscapes, we were inspired by the rainforest and decided to make a sloth scarecrow.
This term we introduced a new PSHE scheme called Jigsaw. We have introduced ‘calm me’ time which encourages us to practise mindfulness and focus on our breathing. We have been looking at relationships this term and have looked at roles and responsibilities, friendship, keeping safe online and being a global citizen. We especially enjoy singing and dancing to the relationship song!
In maths we have been learning about multiplication, division and fractions. We have been looking at saying personal information in Welsh and have written our own personal profile.
