Autumn Term 2016

Welcome to Reception class. We have begun our year by hearing all of your wonderful holiday news and have enjoyed sharing all of your wonderful homework. This term we have been focusing on the book ‘Tree’ by Britta Teekentrup. We have created our own beautiful artwork based on the book and created our own display in the classroom. We have been enjoying our outdoor learning sessions which have entailed looking for signs of autumn and collecting a variety of leaves ready for our Christmas presents! (no more clues!)

We have carried out a bread investigation, tasting a selection of breads from around the world. We continued by baking our own bread and included ingredients of our choice such as: sunflower seeds, olives and raisins. We are certainly giving the ‘Bake off’ a run for its money!

It has been great fun developing our outdoor role-play area as a ‘Farmer’s Market’. We have created signs and labels and decorated the area wonderfully with fruits and vegetables. In the area we have provided real fruits and vegetables such as: carrots, beetroots, marrows, peas, runner beans, sprouts, gourds and a selection of squash and pumpkins. This has created a super sensory experience and further developed their knowledge of seasonal vegetables.

It has been amazing fun learning a new song for our Harvest Service and the children have also created their own class prayer to perform in church, thinking about the things to be thankful for. They have done such a great job, which I’m sure you will agree!
